Central Kalahari Game Reserve

Tailor-made safaris through the Kalahari in Botswana

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana in the second largest protected area in the world. It was originally created as a reserve that would allow the San population to live and survive in their own surroundings. The reserve is certainly and interesting place to visit for people discovering Africa for the first time, but also for those experienced travellers among us.

Watching game in Central Kalahari

What strike you first about the Central Kalahari Game Reserve are the grasslands and glistening salt pans in the Kalahari Desert. Small groups of trees, including mopane, thorn acacia and Kalahari apple trees, almost seem to have lost their way in this area. Four fossilized rivers wind through the north and, while 16,000 years ago water still flowed down these rivers, today they provide the perfect spot for observing wildlife. Imagine gazelles, desert lions, springboks, elands and cheetahs... Even giraffes, wildebeest, hyenas, leopards, jackals, red hartebeest and meerkats are often seen here. Elephants live only in the northern part of the desert.

In the dry season the tsamma water melons and gemsbok cucumbers are the most important source of water for all the inhabitants of this area.

Mobile safari in Central Kalahari

Visting areas - such as the Deception Pan, where it swarms with wildlife after the rain - on a mobile safari in a 4x4 and in the company of a small group is a truly unique experience. The extensiveness of this region will also leave you with an unforgettable impression if you visit during the dry season -created in particular by the vast, unspoilt beauty of this desert. The image of the setting sun seen from a salt pan in the Kalahari Desert is one that we guarantee you will never forget.
