Baobab trees grow right up to the beach in the coastal town of Pemba and the sea is scattered with hundreds of dhows - traditional sailing vessels that are used by fishers and were introduced by the Arabs. The locals say that if all the ships across the world were to moar here, there would still be room for more. Pemba is the regional capital of northern Mozambique. There are plenty shops here, but a visit to the 2-kilometre market is more fun. You can buy all sorts from the thousands of stalls, from fresh products and herbs to spare parts for your bike. The views across the beautiful bay of Pemba, between the rolling hills covered with baobab trees, are truly unforgettable. You can also cross to the Quirimba Archipelago by dhow.
