Windhoek is the capital of Namibia and a city in which its colonial influences still abound. It's great place to stop for a day and acclimatise following a long international flight and the perfect place to purchase African art.
Windhoek
The Nama have assigned their own name to Windhoek, Ai-Gams, and the Herero call the city Otjomuise, which means 'place of steam'. Both names refer to the hot springs that were once part of Windhoek. In addition to many modern buildings, Windhoek also has plentiful remnants of the German colonial era. The promenade in the centre is lined with shops, market stalls and terraces where you can sit and watch the world go by. The diversity of races, clothing and hairstyles is guaranteed to keep you amused for hours. Windhoek is also well known for its many spas and wellness resorts, which are the ideal place to relax and be pampered after all your adventures.
