Lower Zambezi National Park

Individual safaris to Lower Zambezi in Zambia

Lower Zambezi National Park has a surface area of 4,902 km2. 120 kilometres of this area lie along the northern banks of the Zambezi River. This area has been a national park since 1983, which makes it the newest park in Zambia. Much of the park's spectacular beauty is owing to its location along the river and the backdrop of countless small islands and mountains. Zimbabwe's Mana Pools are located on the opposite side of the river.

Phenomenal views across Zambezi River

Your accommodation during your stay in Lower Zambezi National Park will be a lodge located along the river, guaranteeing you phenomenal views. The game park has no less than three different habitats: the first thing to catch your eye will be the lush vegetation on the river banks and the plains that lie behind these which are interspersed with mopane and winterdoorn bushes. Beyond the plains are hills dotted with broad-leaved trees. In addition to the rhinos and crocodiles that live along the banks of the Zambezi River, the water is also frequented by many other different types of game. They come here to quench their thirst and can be approached relatively closely without being disturbed. The banks are also often visited by large herds of up to 100 elephants, as well as buffaloes, waterbucks, lions, leopards and - lest they be forgotten - monkeys. If you don't wake up early in the morning, they're likely to drink your coffee!

Canoe safaris on Zambezi River

In addition to conventional game drives, you can also travel from lodge to lodge by canoe in Lower Zambezi National Park. The animals are largely unperturbed by the canoes and this is a unique opportunity to see Zambia's wildlife. Once you've returned to your lodge in the evening, you can relax and surrender to the noises that fill the air around you.
